In order to achieve broad and inclusive outreach to promote recruitment and employment opportunities at NIPR, the following long-term initiatives have been adopted:

*Partnership with the Indiana Broadcasters Association regarding its annual scholarship program for high school seniors and college students pursuing a career in broadcasting. The participation for the period of this reporting was limited due to limited financial resources, but information about the scholarships was presented on-air and shared with local educational institutions.

*Coordination of an active internship program with area high schools, colleges, and universities to help students acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. NIPR’s internship program is structured in a manner that allows participants to focus on opportunities in development, marketing, special events, and operations and production. A high school intern was involved with WBOI from January 2009 through May 2010.  A new intern will be working with the station beginning later in the spring 2010 and continuing through the summer.  In addition, NIPR professional staff  provide support for the broadcast staff at Manchester College, encouraging students there to choose broadcasting as a career beyond school.

*Participation in job fairs to promote employment opportunities within public radio and with NIPR.  There have been limited opportunities during this past year and because our openings have all required a high level of experience, we have chosen other ways to recruit during this period.

*We have expanded our list of organizations receiving notification of our openings to improve our outreach to underrepresented populations.

*We posted job openings in several new web-based job search tools to make our openings known to a broader group of qualified candidates.

It is NIPR’s policy that, as required by law, equal employment opportunities be available to all persons without regard to race, sex, age, ethnicity, religion, national original, martial status, color, sexual orientation, disability, citizen status, or any other category protected under state or local law. This policy applies to employees and applicants and to all phases of employment including hiring, promotion, demotion, treatment during employment, rates of pay or other forms of compensation, and termination of employment.
