Early Saturday morning, WBOI 89.1FM had a transmitter failure. Our Chief Engineer, Ed Didier, worked throughout the day to restore minor service while diagnosing the problem.
Currently WBOI is broadcasting at reduced wattage, affecting the signal primarily outside the Fort Wayne, Indiana metro area. Even if you live in Fort Wayne, you may have some difficulty receiving the signal indoors.
In addition, the HD radio stations that broadcasts on 89.1-HD (1, 2, and 3) will remain offline until the primary transmitter is fixed (the HD transmitter is being used to broadcast the analog 89.1FM signal).
This is, of course, our top priority. At this point it remains unclear when we will be able to return to full power.
Classical WBNI 94.1FM is unaffected by this issue (however, the simulcast of WBNI on 89.1 HD-2 is offline).
We apologize for the inconvenience; if you cannot currently get out FM signal, you can still listen online at nipr.fm through our streaming online radio player, or on the NPR app, or you can find direct links to our streaming stations--for your own listening devices and programs.
Thank you for listening, and for your patience.
