Daniels names Rush to Indiana Supreme Court

Governor Mitch Daniels named Loretta Rush to the Indiana Supreme Court Friday. Rush is only the second woman ever to serve on the court.

Tippecanoe County juvenile court judge Loretta Rush is Indiana’s newest Supreme Court justice – and the second woman to ever sit on the state’s high court.

Governor Mitch Daniels named Rush as his pick Friday.  Hamilton County judge Steven Nation and Indianapolis attorney Geoffrey Slaughter were the other two finalists.  Many in the legal community urged the governor to name a woman to the bench.  

While Daniels says he wasn’t oblivious to those calls, quality was his first concern.

Skillman supports Mourdock ad

Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman is campaigning for GOP Senate candidate Richard Mourdock in a commercial airing around the state.  Skillman highlights Mourdock’s ability to work with both sides of the aisle, something Mourdock’s opponents say goes against his record.

In the 30 second ad, Skillman talks about Mourdock’s experience working with she and Governor Mitch Daniels.  She refers to the state treasurer a “great teammate” who will work with Republicans and Democrats in Washington.

Romney discusses the economy's impact on veterans

Speaking to a crowd of hundreds of military veterans, Romney spent the majority of his speech talking about issues concerning current and former service members. Romney touched on several issues including defense spending cuts, a backlog of military disability claims and slow economic growth.  Romney said the biggest concern he hears from veterans is jobs.

“They’ve served their country.  They want to get back to work," Romney said. "They need and deserve good jobs.  And this president’s greatest failure is that he’s not delivered those jobs.”

Lindh prayer trial continues with chaplain, imam testimonies

Witnesses on behalf of the federal prison in Terre Haute got their say in federal court Tuesday over whether Muslims at the prison are being unfairly denied the right to pray daily as a group.

Attorneys for the government called two witnesses Tuesday: David Holston, the prison’s supervisory chaplain, and imam Ammar Amonette, the head of the Islamic Center of Virginia.
